Design Team Onboarding: a cool entry point for new designers

About the project

This was a side project that I had the initiative of doing at Pliant (a B2B corporate cards company), because I wanted our new designers to have a new and fun way of starting their journey with us.

Our onboarding lives in Notion, and it works, but at the same time it’s a lot of pages, links and information to take in on day one. New designers can feel a bit lost at first sight, not knowing where to start or what is the most important thing for their first week.

So I created a small webpage to be the “front door” of the onboarding. It doesn’t replace Notion (Notion is still our source of truth), it’s only a friendly entry point that guides the new designer and then sends them to the right place.

The experience starts with “the gate”: the new designer fills in their name and their team (Product or Brand), and a personalized Pliant card is created for them (of course, since we are a corporate cards company!). After doing so, they scroll and find everything they need for week one in six cards:

  1. Welcome - their personalized card, “Designer · day one”

  2. People - meet the new colleagues from the team

  3. Work - four things that explain most of what we do

  4. Design meetings - how their calendar is going to be from now on (our rituals)

  5. Communication - the Slack channels to keep the conversation going (and share their work!)

  6. Product - the important Figma files to look after

At the end, there is an “Overview” page in case they lose a name or a link, and direct links to our Design Team Home and the Product Design General Onboarding in Notion.

I designed and built it end-to-end, with a lot of iterations with Claude along the way. The idea was to make the first contact with the team feel personal and warm, and to show our culture from the first minute: async first, together often, feedback is a gift, design system minded, and craft we’re proud of.
